Happy Birthday Jesus
I dont know what You think about Christmas.. this day thats supposed to celebrate your birth - no doubt among the most important days in history.. along with that day you died and then that time you rose again.
But it’s hard to say whether you like christmas or not.
Sometimes you are quite unpredictable.
Like that time you were born…
you entered the world in a stable.. to people of no social status.. the guests you wanted were shepherds and farm animals.. but then you also wanted Kings and they brought you noble gifts.
That time you went to a wedding.. and you wanted an abundance of wine.. the best kind of wine. It seems you like to have a good time and give others a good time.
I can see you enjoy food and friends because you always shared food with your disciples.. but then you also shared with the hungry masses.
You didnt have a home.. you rebuked your own family, but you tell us family is important. But You also tell us that if we have parties, we aren’t to invite our friends but the poor.
So tomorrow.. consumerism rises its ugly head.. and roars in the rustle of wrapping paper, tantrums of kids who didnt get what they wanted and chuckles of CEOs that make profit on indulgence…
I know you dont like that bit. You tell us to store up treasures in heaven.. to sell what we own.. to think of those exploited and abandoned.. to practice self control and to not conform to the patterns of this world.
But we also worship You, some of us. We reflect , we consider who you are, what you mean to us.. how we live our lives.
It seems ridiculous that the two happen at the same time. The second would seem to steer us well away from the first..
But it seems the church has been infected by this day.
So, Happy Birthday Jesus.
I know I won’t celebrate the way you’d like.. the type of celebration that involves living my life for you everyday.. not wavering in my faith and worshiping daily.
But I do love You,
Happy Birthday.
